Frequently Asked Questions

HOW CAN MY CHILD JOIN BLUE KNIGHTS SOCCER CLUB?

This depends on the time of year.  Team tryouts are held each year in May, and every child that wishes to be placed on a team must attend.  All existing and new players participate in this 2 day event, and coaches assemble teams based on playing level, spaces available and age group needs.  For more information on tryouts, click here.

Occasionally throughout the year spaces become available on teams. To join a team at that point, players would attend a practice session so coaches can evaluate ability level and a team spot might be offered.  We recommend going to the Girls or Boys Team pages and contacting a coach directly if your player is interested in joining Blue Knights outside the Tryout window.  Boys teams, click here.  Girls Teams, click here.

HOW ARE PLAYERS ASSESSED AND PLACED ON TEAMS?

At Tryouts, coaches set up drills, small sided games, and full size scrimmages to evaluate player's strengths and weaknesses. Players are also observed for good sportsmanship, physical fitness level, and whether they are receptive to coach instruction. At the end of both days of tryouts, age group coaches gather together and assess all players to place them on teams based on ability, playing positions, and any other specific team needs. HOW LONG ARE TRYOUTS AND WHEN DO I KNOW IF OUR CHILD MADE A TEAM?

All age groups have 2 day tryouts lasting approximately 90 minutes.  Players should plan on arriving at least 20 minutes early to allow for check in where forms and fees are collected, pictures are taken and any questions can be answered.  Team lineups will be posted on our website no more than 2 days after the completion of tryouts, and will include a small list of alternates that will be placed if spots become available. Click here to access our Tryouts page.

WHAT IS THE COMMITMENT LEVEL OR HOW MANY DAYS A WEEK?

Every team experience will include practices, games, and tournaments.  The quantity of these vary for each age group and slightly with each coach. Typically, most teams practice two days a week with one or two games per week during the spring and fall seasons.  Teams are encouraged to play 1-3 tournaments a year, mostly in the summer, and travel is expected for some playing levels.  Our teams play indoor soccer or futsal during the winter months with at least one indoor practice per week and one session of indoor league games.

WHAT ARE THE FEES?

Yearly fees vary by age group and team, and additional fees for uniforms, winter season and tournaments should be expected. All Blue Knights fees are non-refundable. An updated Fees chart will be posted right before tryouts.

WHAT IS THE YEARLY SCHEDULE?

Blue Knights teams compete in the Utah Youth Soccer Association (UYSA) Fall and Spring competition seasons. However, training, tournaments and other club events take place year round, including the summer and winter months.  Click here for more details.

ARE THERE ANY CLUB DISCOUNTS OR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE OPTIONS?

We offer a club fee discount for families with multiple Blue Knight players. We also have several fundraising opportunities for teams and individuals to help cover expenses.  Financial assistance applications are available, as well as scheduled payment plans.

WHAT KIND OF UNIFORMS DO PLAYERS WEAR?

Our club uses high quality Adidas uniforms for all teams. Every player must wear the assigned Away/Home uniform for the current soccer year and players are expected to wear their Blue Knights practice jerseys at all training sessions.  Our Adidas track suits and backpacks are encouraged but optional. Hoodies, scarves, beanies and additional practice jerseys can be purchased at our online store.

WHAT ARE THE COACH'S QUALIFICATIONS?

Most Blue Knights head coaches have completed the necessary requirements to receive the USSF D license and many have continued their coaching education to receive their C, B or A licenses. Our club also provides ongoing training throughout the year for all head and assistant coaches, including a week-long Coach Education Week each summer. All team administrators, including coaches and managers, are registered with Utah Youth Soccer Association and have passed their background check process. Learn more
